Managing Challenging Behaviours in children with
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
There is strong research evidence to support the fact that Cognitive Behavioural approaches (CBT) to the treatment of ADHD can greatly assist in the management of challenging behaviour at home and in the classroom.
CBT interventions for ADHD often focus on strategies to overcome difficult behaviour such as non-compliance and aggression, as well as managing the environment to reduce the impact of ADHD on a child's functioning. In helping children with ADHD your Clinical Psychologist is likely to liase with parents, teachers and/or caregivers.
In older children treatment often involves strategies to teach the child to manage their own behaviour and emotions.
For some, particularly older, children with ADHD problems they may encounter are depression, poor social skills, anxiety, or low self-esteem. In this case specific treatment strategies are introduced to target these problems.
Rebates of $115 per 50 minute consultation are now available to those with appropriate referrals. See "Fees & Medicare" section.
