CBT Abuse Information

Abuse experiences can lead to a range of different psychological difficulties and in many cases these can persist indefinitely without psychological therapy.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) has been shown by much research to be an extremely effective form of counselling for many abuse-related emotional problems such as Postraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression, and panic attacks.

CBT therapies for abuse-related trauma usually involve training in many different psychological techniques and typically involve some or all of the following components: training in relaxation and anxiety management skills, techniques which desensitise people to the abuse memory and reduce the frequency of intrusive thoughts, nightmares, etc., and techniques to overcome negative thinking patterns.

However each person's reaction is unique and the specific CBT counselling techniques required will depend on the person's particular difficulties.

Fees - the following services usually involve no up-front fee to the client since we bill the relevant party directly:

* Workers Compensation claims (provided you have a referral from their GP or prior approval from the insurer).

Rebates of $110 per 50 minute consultation are now available to those with appropriate referrals. See "Fees & Medicare" section.
